Another musk from Firmenich, Helvetolide is interesting because it has a distinctively Ambrette character and, like Applelide, works in the top-notes as well as the base. It also shares with Applelide a fruity aspect that can be used to enhance many fruity notes but it is much longer-lasting – about two weeks on a smelling strip – so in that sense a classic base note. Recommended usage is up to 5% of the concentrate but again much higher levels have appeared in some commercial fine fragrances.

      Helvetolide
Works well in combination with other musks, having a synergistic effect with several of them (including, Exaltone Exaltolide and Habanolide for example), so that very small doses can be an effective boost to a musk complex. Description from Firmenich: “A sophisticated, modern musky note with a fruity pear aspect. Olfactively, between Ambrettolide and Ethylene Brassylate. Use: This musk performs particularly well in liquid applications (alcohol solution, shampoo, body wash) and emulsions. It is one of the few ‘top note’ musks.” According to Arcadi Boix Camps it is “absolutely unique” and “very diffusive”.
